Helmholtz fails to appreciate other aspects of John’s life and personality, like the need for meaningful relationships for example. This reflects on the fact, and probably Huxley’s belief that no matter what one makes of himself, there will always be traces of the place where one comes from.

Aldous Huxley was born in England in 1894, and spent most of his childhood and young adulthood there. Son of educationists, and grandson of the famous Thomas Henry Huxley (an agnostic and zoologist) he was tutored at home by his mother until he joined Eton. He studied English Literature at Oxford during World War I and taught French afterwards, but the job that made an impact on him was one that he did at a chemical plant, which introduced him to a well-controlled place of complete organization. In 1937, Huxley moved with his wife and son to the United States. He contributed to Vanity Fair and Vogue magazine. At Hollywood he was credited with writing the screenplay for movies like Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. His other great works include Crome Yellow, Eyeless in Gaza, and Island.
