Thesis Paper on Social Changes

Elements and factors of Social Changes

Any accountable change in an overall social order is known as a social change. There are following few elements and factors of social changes:

1) Cultural Goals

The cultural goals have cultural values therein. These cultural values crave cultural goals for the people to strive and achieve. These goals cherish interests and attitudes of the people towards the attainment. The attainment of goals demands efforts of individual or collective efforts of a number of members of a particular culture. As a result of these efforts, various changes arise in the social order and people accept these changes at the expense of their goals. The gradual progress of a culture is also known as a the evolution of that culture with the passage of time.

2) Availability of Natural Resources

Natural recourses are necessary for the survival of the people of a society. Moreover, different social activities thrive on the availability of natural resources.  If there is a shortage of any natural resource, the whole structure of the society gets disturbed and starts a chain of social changes. The people have to adopt new attitudes according to the availability of natural resources so that they can avoid the shortage of these resources.

3) Attitude toward Change

Social changes depend upon the nature of the cultural values which control human behavior. Some cultures adopt changes readily and some show reluctance. The technological advancements are not adopted by many cultures such as “Amish Culture”. Amish people believe that they can survive even without adopting any new ways of living. Other primitive cultures, like Amish culture, show resistance toward the adoption of discoveries and inventions in the material and non-material world.

4) Cultural Accident:

By accident means, the discoveries and inventions that were not intended however happened by chance. Such accidents add a new functioning in the existed system of culture. Columbus discovered America in the West by accident while he wanted to reach India in the East. This accident changed the overall outlook of the world.

5) Diffusion:

Without invention or new discoveries there would be no diffusion and without diffusion there will be little change.
