This phenomenal speech by Martin Luther King has had a visible effect on me. I was touched by the description of the oppression that the African-Americans had persevered for so long. I realised the damaging effects of racism and the need for change. I strive to treat people equally and stay clear of racial discrimination.

The speech has given me confidence to tackle all things that may pose a challenge in my life. I have also learnt to voice my thoughts without fear and work towards positively impacting those around me. The Civil Rights Act implemented most of the things which King had highlighted in his speech. This meant that the government was indeed listened to the cry of the oppressed and made necessary changes. Speaking up is better than suffering in silence.
