Thesis: The American invasion of Afghanistan

Sample Thesis Paper

The act of terrorism killed a total of 2,974 innocent people spanning across 90 nations. America was clearly under attack and it triggered the American War on Terror which held its first phase in the American Invasion of Afghanistan under the Patriot Act which came out on 26 October, 2001, soon after a month of the September 11 attack. The Department of Homeland security came into existence for the very same reasons as well. Afghanistan was given two choices two choose from. It could either hand over Osama Bin Laden, or face an invasion by American armed forces. It chose the second option.

American troops landed in Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 with the execution of Operation Enduring Freedom. The invasion was centered on the capture of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and had been planned for accordingly (Fiscus, 2004). Osama Bin Laden had been hiding out in Afghanistan since 1996 and through the course of the years a tentative working relationship of sorts had been formed between the local Taliban and Al-Qaeda.  Osama Bin Laden was the primary target, and toppling the current Taliban led regime was no less of a priority.
