The preservation of homeland security is the preservation of the human, environmental, economic and political constituents of society in order to allow them to function as per their predefined procedures and objectives so that they can contribute to society through the performance of their respective roles. In this regard, any incident or event that can cause a disruption in the performance of their functions is classifiable as a threat and falls under the scope of homeland security. This paper will attempt to highlight the significance of a breach in homeland security and shall shed light on the relevance of the same.
Before the terrorist attacks on the 11th of September on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the preparation, prevention and response measures designed to deal with threats of national relevance addressed and were somewhat limited to the damage caused by natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, forest fires and the like (Bullock, Haddow, & Coppola, 2006). Resources at the federal, state and local level would focus their attention on these threats of nature.
