Another way of analyzing information is to view the annual reports, industry articles and newsletters published by the firm or industry. This is considered as qualitative method of gathering information and has been commented upon by Patton (1990) as

‘..detailed descriptions of events, situations and interactions between people and things within providing depth and detail…symbolic, contextually embedded, cryptic, and reflexive, standing for nothing so much as their readiness or stubbornness to yield to a meaningful interpretation and response’. (p. 11)

Subjective information is highly useful in evaluating labour or dividend policy of a firm, understand the importance of research and development for a firm and how it might help in generating revenue, and how the company manages and controls inventory (Subramanyam and Wild 2008). Secondary information regarding a company can be gathered from sources other than company’s own provided information. These sources could include analyst reports, equity markets, banks and etc. This type of descriptive analysis has been widely used by analysts in respective of technology companies’ crash in the early 2000. A descriptive analysis allows study of organizational demography include its age, size, years of listing and board structure characteristics including size, composition, CEO duality and CEO standing in terms of independence (Koufopoulos 2008).
