Broadly put, the book comprises of twenty one chapters. The first chapter introduces the reader to the concept of immigration to the United States of America and presents a bit of a prologue to the actual contents and subject of the book. The book covers a number of different aspects with regard to change and its implications upon Miami’s social structure. The book begins with the chapter: On looking back, in which the author introduces the reader to the nature and roots of the people of Miami. The author then moves on to explain how Miami started out the numerous aspects of Miami evolved over time and what role they played in the evolution of Miami. The author then continues to describe the segregation and bureaucratizing interaction that has prevailed in Miami and has provided an excellent description of the root causes that existed in this regard. It appears that the author have chosen to give quite a bit of relevance to the role of every day Americans in the historical perspective of Miami. As a matter of fact, it is quite interesting to note that the author has actually taken the liberty of constituting the book of twenty one chapters and has covered quite a long stretch of Miami’s history.
