Thesis: Failures in ERP Implementation

Sample Thesis Paper

Aims and Objectives of the research

The aim of this research is to evaluate CSF that organizations can purse to avert failures of ERP using past case studies. Once these CSF identify, they will be used to mitigate failures in future projects or processes.

The objectives of this study are:

1.)    To synthesize existing literature on the causes of failures in ERP implementations while outlining gaps in past studies.

2.)     To present case studies of ERP implementation failures.

3.)    To critically review the ERP failures by discussing various models in the market.

Significance of the study

Markus et al., (2000) study stated that ERP implementation faces stepwise difficulties that must address. This conclusion arrived despite the fact that literature gaps exist in explaining the failures before and after the implementation. Additional past studies reveal that most ERP implementers do not have significant information about CSF and how they affect the process. Therefore, this study is significant in building on these CSF from past lessons of ERP implementation failures.

Definition of Terms

1.) Critical Success Factors (CSF) – These are success indicators, which may affect an ERP project either singularly or with others.  (Wong, et al., 2005)

2.) Critical Failure Factors (CFF) – this refers to the main area where the system must breakdown before an ERP implementation adjudged a failure (Wong, et al., 2005)
