The evolution of electronic media and its wide availability for the masses has increased the exposure of the audience to TV based media violence. In the 1940s when the television was a new phenomenon, violent shows on the television were almost unheard of.
Very few families had access to television and depicted any violent behavior aside from the regular cartoons like superman where the good seemed to reign over evil. In the 1950s “rise in youth crime and juvenile delinquency prompted congressional hearings on television violence” (‘Landmarks in the Media Violence Debate: Decade by Decade’, 2007). However the interest of the audience in the action genre as well as the increase in the number of television channel, movies in production as well as diverse range of cartoons and shows targeting children, the exposure of the audience to action has also increased.
