Thesis: Nature of Reality

Conservatism conforms to philosophical realism on the nature of reality. Accordingly, the conservative outlook stipulates that reality is “ontologically independent of inter alia our conceptual schemes, linguistic practices, beliefs and virtues.” (Kirk, 2000) Conservatism further portends that human mind merely bears an approximation of the true nature of reality and that perception through the senses – observation improves human understanding of reality.

For the conservatives, the truth about reality lies in the consistency of ideas and mental pictures (concepts) with the factual world otherwise known as objective reality. The human mind uses the senses to observe things and objects of nature and subsequently represents them in thoughts.
