Since 2004, the issue of obesity and obesity-related disorders has assumed an even greater significance in our national discourse. This has resulted in the availability of a large body of literature addressing the importance of this issue, its many conflicting causes, its possible consequences for us as a nation, and the various remedies at our disposal.
Interestingly, a lot of authors have gone a step further, bringing into question the very legitimacy of this debate, as well as questioning the accuracy of the statistical studies/data that so many of our claims and presumptions are presently based on. With the exception of a small minority, most of these writers have successfully brought to the table new perspectives and ideas from which this problem can be viewed and solved, provided if there is indeed a problem, giving this debate an entirely new dimension.
