Poor relationships between the management, employees, and other stakeholders will lead to problems in the organization (May and Mumby, 2005, p.16). Poor relations have been indicated by the inability for managers to obtain information from former employees on reasons for leaving.
This is an indicator that within the motel, there is poor upward communication from employees to management. For this reason, employees are not able to convey their concerns to management. Communication will only be improved if managers create an environment conducive for effective communication. They should encourage feedback to flow through the channels of communication. Upwards, peer to peer and downward communications should be an everyday occurrence. In addition to this they should encourage ‘listening’ as a skill important to effective communication. They should foster a culture of good relations that will provide healthy grounds for effective communication.
