Introduction

Queen Rania Al-Abdullah was born Rania Al-Yassin on the 31st of August 1970 to an upper middle class Palestinian family originally from Turk am. Their ancestry can be traced back to an area near the west bank of the Jordan River. This area was once a part of Palestine but was eventually annexed by Jordan after the Arab-Israeli war in 1948. It was once again taken back by Israel in 1967 and eventually became part of the much disputed west bank. Rania’s father saw the inherent dangers of political instability and decided to immigrate to Kuwait in the early 1960s. Rania’s father was originally a pediatrician back in Jordan, however once they moved it was her mother who found great success. They eventually gave birth to three children one of whom was Princess Rania (Answers.com).
