Thesis: After World War II and the Holocaust

Sample Thesis Paper

After World War II and the holocaust there were a massive number of Jews that emigrated from various parts of Europe to Palestine illegally. Though many of them were caught nearly 70,000 of them made it there between 1946 and 1947. Because the holocaust brought the Jewish people much sympathy from world communities. The United Nations which had been newly formed at the time decided that Palestine would be partitioned into three parts. With one part having a majority Arab population and Jewish population as its minority, another having a major Jewish population and a minor Arab population and a third part being Jerusalem with a equal population of both that would be under the control of the United Nations. The general Assembly voted on November 29, 1947 and passed the resolution. Though the Arab leaders protested that this action was taken without the consent of the majority of the population their pleas were not heard (MidEastWeb.Org, 2008).

Control of the United Nation meant that Palestine was no longer under British rule. Once British forces withdrew open fighting started between both sides. The violence quickly escalated leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured. During this fight the Jewish population gained the upper hand the claimed part of Palestine as the nation of the Israel while the west bank was annexed by Jordan. The creation of the state of Israel was officially declared by David Ben Gurion on May 14th 1948. He cited the decision of the U.N General Assembly as legal basis for his proclamation (MidEastWeb.Org, 2008).
